ATWT Rewind (2006): Luke Has a Confession For Jade
Huh, I guess I'm on a roll today, aren't I? I guess it's just one of those days. Ha!
So I've been watching more old clips from Luke's coming out story line, and I discovered another one of my favorite moments.
Observe:
In this scene, Luke confesses to Jade (Elena Goode) that he is in love with Kevin.
Oh, why can't the writing on ATWT be this good anymore? One of the things that I really love about this scene is that the viewer actually discovers when Luke fell for Kevin, and some of his inner most feelings. Dialogue like this is just all too rare on soaps today, in my opinion.
Luke: Well, it's just that...he's really important to me. And I think about him all the time, and I don't know why. It just happened.
Jade: When was this?
Luke: About last summer...right before school. We drove up to the lake, this...this place we go to every year. It's kinda like a last right, and we raced out to the raft, and for the first time he beat me. And he was so obnoxious about it, you know? It was really such a big deal, and he was doing this little dance...um like a football player in the end zone. And I was laughing at him, and he pushed me off the raft, and then he jumped on me and then he tried to dunk my head under the water and I just...I wanted...I wanted...
Jade: You wanted him.
Luke: And I still do.
This part of the scene explained so much to me. Even though I knew Kevin was not right for Luke, and that he was not a good influence, I began to understand why he had feelings for Kevin.
In addition, Van's tone and body language was just spot on. I could tell that Luke was nervous, and he actually made me feel nervous for him. The acting was subtle, but still so effective. And even though Jade was sometimes a pain, I adored how she was always able to open Luke up. Van and Elena were excellent as confidants, and I think that is someone Luke is really missing in the current story line.
