The quote is appropriate in more ways than one.
Just went to Tesco to get Avengers on DVD and there was a sign that said if you spent £30 you would get it for just £8 instead of the £12.97 it was priced at. I wasn't really fussed about this because I was buying the DVD anyway and it was my whole reason for going to the store but we needed a few other things anyway and so when we were at the checkout and the cashier was ringing my sale through and it was at about £22 pounds before she scanned the DVD I assumed that I would be able to get it at the discounted price. WRONG. Apparently you need to spend £30 on top of the DVD so if your sale if £25 pounds before the DVD gets added no discount but nowhere on the signs did it state this. I told the cashier that the signs were misleading and she said "Did you want to leave it then?" meaning the DVD as I has to pay full price. I sort of snapped back at her and said "It is the only reason I came here today, I'd pay £300 pounds for it if I had to." Okay, slight exaggeration there but I was trying to make a point. Her response was to tell me to go to customer services. I just paid for my stuff and left. I really wouldn't have minded so much if the sign had said you have to spend £30 without the DVD being put through to get the discount but it was the fact that it didn't state that anywhere that I could see. There was probably some small print but who even bothers to stop and read small print any more.
I would normally feel bad for snapping at someone like that but at no point did she apologise or say she understood my frustration or anything like that. I know how it can be when a customer thinks they are entitled to something and I don't think I was unduly harsh or anything like that in my reactions but then I don't know. Her entire manner was along the lines of "I don't want to be here and I can't be bothered to be polite to customers." At least that's how it seemed to me. It just annoyed me.
Rant over.
