Busybody or Nature's Defender?

Ah, spring, and in the run-up to the summer season, the air is ringing with the sound of trees being felled and fed into chippers. Yes, the summer people are at it again. The house down the street was just sold to summer folk, and today the tree crew rolled up and got busy.

So, I blew the whistle. I called code enforcement to see if they had obtained the proper permits and site evaluation. This is the whole reason we fought to pass a tree ordinance, and if the town is not enforcing it, I shall be rather angry. When I took a stroll down the street, the crew was busy stuffing an 18-foot blue spruce into the feeding chute for the grinder. I fear the oaks are next... word is the new owners intend to put in a pool. They can put in a pool without taking down all of the trees. Problem is, most new owners tend to just take them all down, because the remaining trees make the pool "messy."

So, am I a busybody interfering with the property rights of others? Or am I throwing bricks in a losing battle to try and preserve our canopy and our environment? Guess that will depend on whether the town responds or not.
