jpgr joined us at the barn today, and happily documented the thriving pony that is our Felix. You may remember he came to us in May rather than become dinner for the lions at the Bronx Zoo. He was underweight, shaggy, underloved, and lonely. He's had lots of love, grooming, hay, grass and feed since then, and now he looks lovely. He's giving lessons and his ponytude is back. Still stops on a dime when you ask him to, and has become buddies with Sprinkles and Crackerjack. Life is real good for Felix.
Now there's a new horse in the barn, a thoroughbred rescued from the auctions for $200, which was his "meat price." He is a beautiful dappled gray/white, very sweet, about 6 years old, but so horribly emaciated it hurts to look at him. The woman who bought him lives across the street from the farm, and she is gently nursing him back to health. I can't wait to see how he looks in a few months when he's back in form. I wish I had the $ to rescue auction horses, too. It's not the initial cash layout, it's the upkeep. Maybe someday.
Now, off to
jpgr's journal where she will tell you her impressions.
