The weather is thing. We have a conservative government, which earned the immediate approval of David Cameron (so very much not a good sign). The NSW parliament is considering a foetal personhood bill. (Retire from parliament, Nile, you disgusting fundie, and take all your horrible far right buddies with you.) The US Open award ceremonies were so plastered with US flags it was quite confronting. I have learned to associate flag waving with war-mongering, racism, violence, fundamentalism, jingoism - generally, if you wave a flag, unless it's one of these flags, you scare me, and I assume you mean harm.

With all that in mind, my current un-fandom is The Great British Bake Off. I love it so much, it makes me happy, I have a Pavlovian response of warmth, happy anticipation and relaxation when I hear the theme and incidental music, and I would like to be on it. I'd be quite happy to be booted out in the first episode because all I really want is a comforting hug from Mel and Sue. That would be lovely and make everything better.

New TV seems to have started in earnest. I'm giving Ironside a go, but it did not start well. So tediously bored and distressed with children in peril being used as an excuse for human rights abusing violence. Children in peril does not make what you're doing okay! So leaving that one for another, more resilient evening.

The other US shows that have started seem to share the theme of competent woman managing manchild's life (Back in the Game, Trophy Wife) so they are off the list. How is it September already? I'm not prepared.
