Ducklings!

Oh my gosh!  There are DUCKLINGS in the bushes around our building.  We went and got gogi beef banh mi sandwiches and bayou goo pie (really good, chocolate and custard and chocolate chunks and pecans and stuff), and when we got back, there was little fluffy ducklings hanging out on the grass with the adults! :D

From the cheeping, it looks like the nest is in a bush under a neighbor's window, and there's quite a few of the little guys.  We spotted 3, but it sounded like at least a couple more hiding in the bushes or in the process of hatching.  The three we saw were super small, so probably just hatched.  2 were pure yellow fuzz balls, one had a dark brown cape and striping on it's back and head.  So cute!

In other news, I hope my kefir is alive.  I lost my grains in the move, so I ordered some more.  They took a while to ship though, and don't seem too peppy in the milk I've provided.  Been having fun making tsukemono with a japanese style pickle press though, and I got some water locks from a beer and wine hobby store to make cheap sauerkraut in smaller glass jars.  I seem to like smaller batches; the big 5 gallon sauerkraut crock is just so much if the batch doesn't work out perfectly!

Definitely making the most of having a tiny living space that's easy to keep at constant temperatures though. Yay, bacteria farming!  So many "pets"  XD
