Spamalot

Went to see a preview of Spamalot today in London with Bex, Vick and co.

So my question to anyone who saw it in the US is this -- how did that become a smash hit on broadway?

It wasn't /bad/ per se, and the cast was fine (Tim Curry was great, even) but the best parts were lifted entirely from the film, the new songs were non-entities, and the pokes at Jews and gays just reminded me that Eric Idle's sense of humour never really progressed far past the 70s. (I'm not thin skinned but I was mildly offended.) I never got over the feeling that it would have worked better as a student production on the Edinburgh Fringe.

For fans only. And even then, you might as well save your money and just watch the film again.

The best thing about the show was the merchandise, seriously. My husband has been tormenting me relentlessly with the cute hand puppet of the bunny of doom (that I stupidly bought him!) and we got a cool t-shirt for my dad that said 'I'm not dead yet' that he'll totally love.

Tomorrow we are going to attempt to deflea Tuppence. Wish us luck (she wriggles like a small and very wriggly thing even though it does not hurt her at all!)
