http://coplife.net/wordpress/?p=23 Eau de Squad Car? Have any of you ever thought about the smell of a squad car? I try to keep mine pleasant. After all, it is my office all day. I estimated to a new guy I am training the other day that I probably spend about 5 bucks a month on "smellgoods" for the car. I have become quite the conniseur of air fresheners for cars. I know where the bargains are.
I encouraged him to stop and keep a "felony tree" air freshener in his gear bag since you never know when your car will need work and you get stuck driving a spare of dubious mechanical condition. You pop it out and hang it, and you know how good and string they are when new. Works like a charm.
So what does a squad car smell like, you ask? Well, if you're lucky you take care of it and it smells good. But more likely it is the odor of you.
-Your sweating your ass off because of wearing dark layers of clothing and a 10 lb vest on a 90 degree day.
-Its the odor of fast food since you eat in your car between calls. Its the occasional body odor that that not-so-healthy eating imparts on your digestive tract.
-Its the odor of the guy you just arrested for whatever who is homeless and as such hasnt had a shower in over a week- and youre transporting him (or her) off to jail.
-Its the odor of the nastiest houses you will never step foot in.. but I just did.
-Its the occasional odor of death and decaying bodies you are called to check the welfare on who havent been seen in a week, but their car is parked outside.
-Its the smoke and soot absorbed into your uniform at the occasional structure fire. Unlike firemen, I dont have an extra suiting up to do when I get sent to the same fire.
-Its a lot of smells rolled into one. But like I said I usually try to keep it like "wildberries" or "vanillaroma". I'd like to think it works.
