Judge Walker issued a stay a few minutes ago preventing new licenses from being issued. Oh well.

There's reportedly "an absolute scrum" at San Francisco City Hall right now with people trying to get marriage licenses. They're issuing them as fast as they can.

This year's census is like no other previous census. For the first time, the US government is counting people who consider themselves to be married as married, regardless of if they have a marriage certificate and regardless of if they are opposite or same sex. Next Saturday, December 20th, there are plans for nationwide silent protests for GLBT Rights. People are being asked to hold candlelight vigils at major commercial centers to bring attention to the cause of GLBT rights. Chanting and confrontation is discouraged, but holiday songs, etc are encouraged to raise awareness.

As of 5:01pm PDT today, it's legal for same sex couples to wed in California.

Strangely, but not surprisingly, the NY Times had pictures up before the SF Chronicle. Here is a picture of the first couple to be wed in San Francisco, which also happens to be the first couple to be wed back in 2004. They are Del Martin, 87, and Phyllis Leon, 84. Maybe ( Read more... )
