[Piers didn't even bother to do anything more than listen to the other responses on that draft announcement. His name was on there, so was Mia's, and so were the names of others he knew and counted as friends. It didn't seem like there was anything that could be done ( Read more... )

Humid, prone to a lot of rain. Probably uncomfortably warm as well.

[And that warm part is going to be an issue. He knows how Mia fares in deserts.]

That was what I was afraid of. So something like a desert but with more heat and moisture then?

Ahhh... not quite. Well, just as much a pain in the ass...

[Oh hey, Katara's talking to you.]

Katara's got the right of it. You'll need to be careful of other things, though-- get the wrong bug biting you and you won't be much good to anyone.

What can the bugs do? I'm capable of curing poison and have had to do that to myself before. [Never a pleasant experience, but better than ending up dead.] Should I be concerned for other effects they could cause?

I'd say so. They can cause any number of illnesses via the bacteria they carry. Anything from throwing up for days on end to death. [Sheeeee should know. >>] You should see if you can maybe get a vaccination from the clinic before you go.

A vaccination? [And he looks genuinely confused, but excuse the poor sheltered man here and his lack of knowledge of disease. It seriously does not exist for him.] And diseases can do things like that?

Uh...yeah. You've never been sick?

Disease doesn't exist where I come from. [And he's quite serious about this. The only illness would be a weakness in body and he's still young enough to not be running into that yet.]

[Disease doesn't...

...

...uh.]

Well, that's... pretty lucky.

Just hold on for a second, Piers. I think you should talk to someone.

[Vanishing temporarily. |D]

All right. [And he'll wait patiently, a bit curious about this and who she is getting.]

[A couple minutes go past before a small reindeer peeks into the journal, eyes wide.]

Er...hello?

[Well, hey there reindeer person. Oddly Piers is actually not looking too surprised at this. Or at least not showing it outwardly.] Are you the "someone" Nami went to get then?

Uh, yeah. I...she said you've never encountered disease before. Is that really true?

coolstempers June 6 2011, 02:19:31 UTC
It is true. It is not the case for my whole world, but it is true for my homeland.

[Such a large area with no disease...he's never heard of something like that before.]

If you don't mind me asking...do you know why? Are people in your homeland gifted with especially advanced immune systems, or does disease really just not exist there?

[It isn't that large of an area though, really just an island in the middle of a sea.]

I know it is not just the people born there. An outsider found his way there and has the same advantages the rest of us have. We do know the water in the springs there has special properties and we used to have a magical draught that gave those same properties when we traveled outside.
