WARNING
In at least one of the alternate universes, all of what Samantha and the others lived through, never happened.
Yet.
And major Samantha Carter still have time to give a warning and some advices to… another version of herself.
*
She always comes to her in her dreams, never in real life.
“How do I know it isn’t just a dream?” The little, seven-year old Sam asks.
The other Samantha smiles a bit.
“Just believe it.” She says, then continues. “I’m Samantha Carter. I’m an older version of you, Sam. I’m you, and you’re me.”
Sam still doesn’t believe her. It is just a dream, isn’t it?
“Of course.” She says with a hint of sarcasm.
“When I was your age, I wasn’t such a sarcastic person as you are.” Samantha smiles again.
“So, you see…you aren’t me, and I’m hundred percent sure that I’m not you.” Sam is not convinced.
Samantha steps up to her. She sits on the bed next to her and starts to stroke her hair.
“Believe me…” She says quietly.
“Ok, suppose that what you say is the truth. Then what?” Sam asks.
“Believe me, it is just the beginning of a long journey, which you must experience.” Samantha answers, smiling a little.
*
There are many nights like this, and usually they talk about everything and nothing. (Sam thinks that she likes Samantha, and that Samantha feels the same about her.) But sometimes Samantha is sad and quiet.
“What’s happened?” Sam asks and hugs her friend. (Now she thinks of Samantha as her friend, so she tries to console her.)
“Nothing.” Samantha says, but she knows that she came here because she wanted to give a warning to the other version of herself.
She takes a deep breath.
“Just remember. You must save him. Don’t allow him die, please.” She whispers one of the times.
*
Many years later, Sam rescues Martouf, kisses him and whispers her thanks to no one (“Thank you, Samantha, for your warning.”), because the other Samantha hasn’t visited her for a long time.
