Welcome New Year

Jan 10, 2011 11:09

I did it again. I've abandoned my lovely blog for the longest time ever and caved in to shooting zombies. With plants. Plants vs Zombies is the most addictive game ever. I think I'm a couple of months outdated though, because most people have moved on to shooting angry birds on their iphones.

It's been busy. Over the festive season, it was just non stop baking after work (thank God it was temporal), dying under a huge pile of Korova Chocolate Chip Cookies, rushing to mix a whole pot of custard cream and whip up some mascarpone for my tart fillings, chucking tart bases into the freezer, hurrying to make tiramisu in 30 minutes. (It's the fastest, easiest dessert to make and you can still impress). Then came the new year. I've been happy, bumming around, reading, playing the silly zombie game, running, meeting up with friends, and laughing a lot. I also dug up my 2010 resolutions (one of which says that I need to perfect my macaroon making skills, which I haven't of course), and made new ones this year. I only have 12 this year, but I figured that it's better to make more meaningful resolutions than write crap ones like "try to stop acting blur/ ditsy" and "get a boyfriend by my 21st unless all the good guys are taken", or "never ever go back to Cova". I boycott places by the way, and I go out of my way to avoid them. This year's resolutions include "avoid franchises", think Starbucks - their coffee is TERRIBLE, it gives you a stomachache. Truly, people should learn to appreciate good coffee. Go visit Papa Palheta, 40 Hands (which I've yet to try), Shots (which I've also yet to try), even Jones the Grocers serves a decent yummy coffee. Just don't drink coffee from Starbucks.

Anyway, I was sitting on the couch last night and watching the tellie when Australian Junior Masterchef came on. That show puts each and everyone of us to shame, because the kids are between 8-12 years old and they whip up mean dishes. The desserts section blew me over. KIDS they were and they were making warm lava cake, orange cake with vanilla bean mascarpone, and some other funky desserts. These kids have ambition and dreams, and I wonder what I'm doing with my life now. For the moment, I was inspired. Then came the seafood section, kids were handling icky yucky fish and octopus! I think I will die if  ever had to handle any of that. Really, I take my hat off to them.

I should start making a list of the stuff I wanna bake soon. My recipe books are getting dusty in the corner because I keep baking the same things. It doesn't help that Chinese New Year is descending upon all of us and it's gonna be a frenzied time of baking once again.
