The Den, Thursday Early Evening

Sep 27, 2007 17:42

Piper had a pretty long day. There were classes followed by the long commute back to Neptune from LA. She was seriously considering asking Bel to shimmer her to class every day to avoid the traffic.

She got home to freshen up a bit before heading to work. She wasn't there very long before she was told to return home. She was extremely exhausted and not feeling all that great. As soon as she was back, she practically collapsed onto the couch. She even put her feet up on the table, something she usually chastises others for doing.

Phoebe was surprised to see her sister when she got home from her class.

"Hey, Piper, you okay? I thought you worked tonight."

"I wasn't feeling well, so they sent me home." Piper looked at her sister. "How was your day?"

"Not feeling well?" Phoebe repeated in concern. "What's wrong?"

"I'm fine. Just have a cold or something," Piper replied, coughing slightly. "Now tell me how your day was."

Phoebe sat down next to her. "Piper... you don't get sick."

"Since when? Just because I'm a witch does not mean I'm invincible," Piper argued. "Or immune to whatever's going around."

"You should be in bed, Piper. I can make you some soup... or tea. I can definitely make you some tea safely."

Piper smiled. "Tea would be nice."

She wasn't about to move from her spot on the couch just yet, though.

Phoebe went into the kitchen and started the kettle. She had never liked it when her sisters were sick... and now was not different.

She made Piper a large mug of Chamomile and brought it out to her.

"Best sister ever," Piper said, repeating the words Phoebe had said to her last week. She took the mug from her and immediately took a sip...followed by another coughing fit.

Phoebe put her arm around Piper and held her as she coughed. "You need to see a doctor Piper."

"Phoebe, I'm fine," Piper protested. "Besides, I don't have time for that. Not when I have a paper to write and work and the whole witch thing. I'll feel better after getting some sleep."

Phoebe gave her a look. "You would make me."

She wasn't wrong about that. "If I'm still not feeling well in the morning, I'll go to the doctor, okay?"

Phoebe sighed. "You're being stubborn, Piper. That cough really sounds bad."

"As the big sister, I'm supposed to be stubborn," Piper joked, grinning at Phoebe. "But I'll go to bed now anyway."

She stood up to do just that, but immediately faltered back onto the couch. "Or not."

"Piper!" Phoebe scrambled close to her sister. She frowned and put a hand on her forehead. "You're running a fever."

Phoebe might have been a little bit of flaily.

Piper looked at Phoebe. "I think you're right."

Not just about the fever. She was probably right about Piper needing to a doctor, also.

"Piper... we need to call a doctor for you."

Piper nodded, too tired now to argue.

Phoebe ran to find the phone and the number of a doctor.

She was flailing again.

Cole wandered into the living room as Phoebe was running out. "Whoa, what's going on, sweetheart?" he said, catching her.

Phoebe raised frantic eyes to Cole. "Piper's sick! She has a fever and she's... she's sick!"

"Slow down, Phoebe," Cole said, hands on her shoulders. "You need me to carry her to her room or something so she can rest?"

Phoebe had worried tears in her eyes. "She needs a doctor Cole... we should take her to the hospital."

"She's that sick?" Cole said, glancing into the living room. "I can shimmer her there instead of driving."

"She stood up and fell back onto the couch." Phoebe was flailing. "Please?"

Cole nodded. "Okay, let's go." He moved into the living room and bent to scoop Piper up into his arms, whether she wanted to or not.

Piper didn't even try to protest. It was very clear that something was wrong.

And that's when Cole knew that something was seriously wrong, because Piper wasn't snarking at him. He could feel the heat radiating from her. "All right, let's get you to the doctor," he said gruffly. "You probably have the flu or something." He waited for Phoebe to join them, then shimmered them all to the hospital.

Whatever was wrong, it was serious enough for Piper to be admitted, at least overnight. The fact that a infectious disease specialist was brought in lead her to believe it might be more than just the flu. She was a little worried, but she didn't let that show for Phoebe's sake.

"Thanks for making me get checked out," she said tiredly to Phoebe and Bel, reaching for her sister's hand.

It was hard to hide the worry when your sister was an empath. She held onto Piper's hand.

"Of course," she murmured. "We take care of each other, Piper."

"Your would-be kids can heal, can't they, Piper?" Cole brought up, hovering nearby. "Want me to call them, get this taken care of?"

"No," Piper said quickly, trying to sit up. "I don't want them to know what's going on. I'm sure I'll be out of here by tomorrow. No need to worry anyone."

Phoebe was starting to flail a little bit. "If you're not I am calling Wyatt and Chris, Piper. They can heal you and ... and no more sick sister in the hospital."

"Phoebe, please don't," Piper stubbornly argued. "They don't need to know about this. Besides, if I'm suddenly healed, don't you think that'll look suspicious? Let the doctors handle it this time."

"She's got a point, Phoebe," Cole agreed. "We've gotta be more careful about using our powers out here. It's not Fandom."

Of course, he was blissfully ignoring the fact that he had shimmered them all here not long ago, but hey, that's what empty alley ways were for.

Phoebe didn't like it, but she had to admit they were right. Her eyes were still dark with fear and worry though.
