[Action] New Year, New Feelings

Jan 12, 2008 00:19

She woke up feeling lighter than she had done in a while, raising her face slightly she noticed Yoshi was still asleep. Smiling to herself she slowly started to get out of bed hoping not to disturb him, she hadn’t gotten far however when his arm, which had been lying loosely around her waist, tightened pulling her back to him.

His eyes still closed he mumbled, “Where do you think you’re going?”

Rika grinned, “I was going to make breakfast before my supposedly asleep fiancé stopped me”

Opening one bleary eye Yoshi just smiled, “I think your fiancé wants you to stay here”

“You don’t want breakfast?” she asked, settling herself back against him happily.

Yoshi nodded, “I do but not right now. I’ll make it in a bit, just stay here for now” He tightened his arms around her, kissing the top of her head.

They were going to the shrine later on that day but it seemed for now Yoshi was content to lie here together. And Rika was too. They had been so busy recently, they were both exhausted. Not just physically but emotionally too. But recently it seemed a great weight had been lifted from them both. They didn’t have to go into a new year with lies haunting every conversation they had with friends. They could go out together, as a couple, openly. No hiding. No deceit. Just living their lives like they wanted to.

Rika thought about her friends, she hoped this year would be kinder to all of them. They had all been through so much in one year but things were already changing. There was Naoko, who was slowly building her strength and confidence back up again. Sakura was happy with Syaoran, who had promised to stay in Japan to be with her, and hopefully her problem with her ‘friends’ would dissipate and things would settle down for her. Akashi had become a wonderful friend and confidante. And then there was Touya. She hoped the new year would bring him happiness and contentment.

She jumped slightly as she heard a noise from the front of the apartment, she felt Yoshi chuckle and playfully slapped him.

“You must have been deep in thought for the post to startle you” he said, his voice laced with amusement. “It’ll be the new year postcards.”

Rika nodded, “I know. Ours will be landing on our friends doormats too” Ours, it was such a natural thing to say, yet it sent a thrill through Rika. When she had been making them she had hesitated over how to sign them, until she had mentioned it to Yoshi who had reminded her of their agreement to be open for the New Year. So their friends would be receiving postcards from Rika and Yoshi, the couple. It had seemed strange when writing them that she wouldn’t be sending one to Naoko. She had realised with a start that Naoko had received postcards the year her mother had passed away. How strange it must have been for her friend, and how much hurt must she have kept to herself for so long.

“Ok so breakfast?” Yoshi asked, pulling Rika from her thoughts.

She nodded and started to move only to be stopped by Yoshi’s hand on her arm.

“I’ll do it” he told her, getting up himself. “I’ll surprise you. Then we can head to the shrine”

“Sounds good” Rika agreed as he left the room. Plumping up the pillows behind her Rika sat back and smiled to herself. This year was going to be a good year.
