Hello good people.
I was rummaging through one of my cabinets - the lower one, the one I randomly throw stuff into and then slam the door real fast before it can tumble back out at me. I discovered that (a) I will never have to buy light bulbs again for the rest of my life because apparently I have been buying them in multi-packs and stuffing them away (b) I have more bundt pans, springform pans, and muffin tins than any human could possibly need at once (c) ditto canning bands and lids (d) I did NOT give away my cookie cutters.
Y'see, a few years ago I had to clean out my mother's house and I gave a LOT of things away, including a few things I now desperately regret (like vintage cookie press kits) and I thought that somehow I had also let go of my cookie cutters... the good ones made of tin. But no, there they are, hidden way in the back.
And so here we are just short of three months to Christmas. My husband loves cookies. So do I. So do all our friends and relatives. We've quit buying gifts, but I love to make food for friends and family, and they seem to love to receiving homemade goodies much more than they love another ice scraper or Isotoner Gloves or electric vibrating spatula. I have plenty of recipes, and I like using them, but there has to be more out there.
You folks have been so very helpful with my inquiries about fruitcake & whatnot - I know that you must have wonderful recipes for cut-out type cookies. Some of them need to age a few weeks, so this is a good time to ask... would you like to share your Christmas/ Hannukah/ holiday cut-out cookie recipes? And if there's a story about how your bubbe made this with you when you were a wee tot, or this is a recipe passed down from the Old Country, or how you and your mother made this one night while taking nips from the slivovitz and would up weepy as you talked about grandma and grandpa... I want to hear that too. Isn't that why we cook - to connect us?
Thanks in advance for sharing!
