Food Transportation

I have recently completed my first year of a grad program in Florida, and am finally getting to go home to Virginia for the first time this year tomorrow.

My mother has tasked me with the job of bringing two Key lime pies home over the two day trip.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how to transport these? I am thinking a styrofoam cooler with gallon-sized Ziploc bags of ice. Should I maybe put salt in the bags to get them even colder? Will this last all day long (with a change the second day)?

I am staying overnight at the halfway point with some family friends, so I can put them in the fridge overnight (and will have to bring a third to give to them to be a good guest...a lot of pie going around here...).

Help!

Edit: Also, anyone know where to get the best Key lime pie in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale? Or really anywhere else north of here on I-95. :-)
