“Coffee. Now!” Jack snapped at Ianto as he stormed past on the way to his office. A couple of moments later the sound of Jack’s office door slamming shut reverberated around the Hub.
Ianto sighed. Jack had been tense and irritable all day, and it looked like his latest argument with Owen over how to proceed in their current case had finally pushed him over the edge. The last thing Jack needed, in Ianto’s opinion, was more caffeine, but if he didn’t turn up with a steaming mug within a few minutes, Jack would go on the warpath. Ianto resolved to do as his boss said, and headed reluctantly to the cupboard where the coffee was kept. When he opened it, however, he was struck by a better idea - if only he could find a way to get Jack on board.

“At last,” Jack said as Ianto appeared at the door to his office with Jack’s striped mug in his hands.
Ianto raised an eyebrow but declined to mention that he had been as swift and efficient as ever. He set Jack’s mug down on the desk next to the paperwork Jack was filling in, and stood back, then suddenly realized that he would need to invent a reason to stay and watch Jack start his drink if he was to put his plan into action.
“Hard day, sir?” he tried.
Jack looked up from his form and grimaced. “You could say that.” He reached for the mug, and held it in his hands for a moment, letting it warm them. “I guess I’m not quite the ideal boss today, huh?” he said, in a tone that was almost apologetic. He took a sip of his drink, then spat it back out in shock.
“What,” he said, looking horrified, “is that?”
“It’s tea,” Ianto replied, calmly.
“I don’t drink tea! I've never drunk tea. And I asked for coffee!”
“If you give it a chance, sir, I think you’ll find -” Ianto started.
“But coffee is your speciality -” Jack interrupted.
“- that it’s very good,” he finished. “And this particular blend includes Damiana leaves, which are supposed to have calming properties. It’s long been used by the people of Mexico to aid in relaxation.”
“You think I need to be calmed down?” Jack said in a dangerous voice.
“I just thought, with all the grief Owen’s been giving you…” Ianto said, doing his best to be soothing without sounding condescending.
“I’m fine. I just need my coffee.” Jack pushed the mug towards Ianto and returned to his paperwork.
Ianto shrugged. “Okay, if that’s what you want. I just thought its other benefits might interest you.” He picked up the mug and turned to leave.
“Other benefits?” Jack asked, and Ianto remained facing the door to hide his victorious smile.
“Damiana leaves are also used as an aphrodisiac. They help to increase desire and boost sexual potency by increasing oxygen flow to the genitals. Longer term use can even improve sexual fitness and performance.”
For a moment there was silence. Then -
“Maybe I’ll just try one more sip,” said Jack.
Ianto turned back and passed the mug to him, watching as Jack took a large mouthful and swirled it around in his mouth. Ianto waited for the verdict.
“It’s actually not that bad,” Jack said, slowly.
“Thought you might come around to my way of thinking,” Ianto replied, barely bothering to disguise his smirk. “I’ll leave you to your work, then, sir.”
“Wait, Ianto,” Jack said as Ianto reached the door.
He glanced back. “Yes?”
“Did you make a cup for yourself as well?” Jack asked, the stern expression finally having left his face for the first time that day. There were even the hints of a lascivious grin.
Ianto smiled. “Of course,” he said over his shoulder as he left.
He had a feeling he’d be back in the office later that night.
