McKinley Update

Thanks to everyone's responses on my last post. I passed along your well wishes to my Mom and she was very appreciative.

McKinley is doing okay. The vet team determined that there was no cancer, neurological damage or tumors (all of which are excellent news--my mother was so relieved that she cried). They did say that he had a cataract which was obscuring all vision in one eye and a detached retina in the other. She has brought him home and will be giving him an injectable medication up to six times a day in hopes that he will regain some vision in the better of the two eyes. I don't think surgery was an option. There is only a 50% chance that the medication will help his condition and even if it does, he will have very limited sight. Mom was given a packet of information about caring for blind animals--most of which she knows as we had an older dog with deteriorating sight when I grew up--and has been instructed to bring him back for an evaluation in one week.

Thank you again for the well wishes, prayers and good thoughts. It really means a lot to me.
