I know this will sound silly to those of you that aren't animal people, but please, please keep my Mother's dog in your thoughts and prayers today. He is a six year old Shih Tzu named McKinley. He woke yesterday morning abruptly and completely blind. He was understandably terrified. While we've always thought McKinley's distance vision to be bad, he has never seemed to have had a problem with peripherial or close up vision. My mom took him to her local vet and the vet immediately referred her to a large teaching (pet) hospital located a few hours away. Yesterday, McKinley was seen by an animal neurologist and labs and bloodwork were done. At this point, they are trying to rule out cancer, tumors and neurological related issues. Mom stayed overnight in a hotel there and will be returning to the hospital today when they phone with the results. McKinley is truly a part of the family and my mother would be devastated should something happen to him.
