Journal Entry 8.1 - A Karaoke Tale Vol.1

Apr 18, 2004 13:19

Now, just sit right back and you'll hear a tale. A tale of a fatefull ship....wait...that's not it. Moving on. Karaoke. Is it sad that this has shaped my life and me as a person more over the past few years than most anything else. Not all of it has been directly, mind you, but it has been involved in some form or fashion in most of what has happened to me in the past few years. Think of me and my group as the cast of Friends and the various Karaoke bars as Central Perk (corect me if I'm wrong on the coffee shop's name).

It all started a little over 2 years ago for me. It was Halloween. My friend Brian and I went to Spanky's in downtown Fredericksburg to see what they were doing for Halloween. He was not in costume from what I can recall, but I was the Crow. We hung out for about an hour and nothing was going on at all. No party, No costumes, nothing. So we walked outside to go home and find something else to do when these two very attractive ladies dressed as angels come walking towards the bar. Now I was much more sheepish back then. SunCom and Karaoke did wonders for me coming out of my shell and gaining self-confidence, but moving on. As they are walking past I make the comment "Good luck, you'll be the only ones in costume." Thinking this is the entire exchange I turn to keep walking towards the car when the short one fires back with the most profound statement that I had heard in years, "Why does that have to be?" That statement blew my mind, and something changed inside me. I would never have gone back in. I would have just laughed it off, walked away, and kicked myself for it later, but I didn't. I said "You're right, why does that have to be?" With that Brian and I turned around and went back in.

Well I would learn that these two that had convinced me to come back in were MustangKelley and wonderland218 (the short one). From there I told my friend Hodge242 to come out, and he told our friend Jon_Maynard, who told....and from here it looks like a page out of the old testament, but the point from here is that the group expanded rapidly till Spanky's business started dying, but Karaoke night was packed with people that were either directly in the group, or there as a result of the group. This was the first renaisance. And for a time it was good...

Enough of "A Karaoke Tale". The next chapter will unfold tomorrow. Until then watch little boy orange come blow his horn...or horns in this case. This is a great clip and you should all watch this, but not on dial up. And till next time...
