Winter, Moody thinks, may be just another kind of hell. It started snowing last night, and when they woke it had covered everything. The only thing he doesn't hate about it is its memory, its ability to record every footstep, every fallen leaf and frozen twig.

He just wishes it didn't have to be so bloody cold.

He'd started cursing when he first put the teapot on, and he hasn't really stopped since, a string of muttered words that Penelope is mostly ignoring.

She, of course, doesn't mind the weather at all.

"Never get old," he growls, slamming the sugar bowl down, and she can clearly see that he's having one of his moods. He hates the world and right now it seems the world is hating back.

"Didn't know that was an option," she says.

"You're smarter than me, you'll figure it out."

She sighs. "Leg bothering you again?"

He nods. "Yeah. Doesn't much care for the cold."

"Looks like a good day to stay inside, then, doesn't it?"

"Maybe. You won't be bored? Gods know you've read everything in the house."

"The interesting ones, at least twice. No, I think we'll manage."

Moody nods. "Sorry I snapped at you."

"It's alright. Keep drinking your tea, it'll help."

He looks at her. "What did you do?"

"What were you too distracted by pain to notice that I did?" she replies. "You were going to mope around here for at least another quarter hour before you decided you might need the pain potion after all, and I was going to lose my temper with you a bit before that. You know what happens when we fight- we break things."

"Thought we'd decided to call that one 'practice'."

"Something you said I needed a bit more of, since I'd turned the cat into a cactus," she says, clearly trying not to laugh.

Moody chuckles. "True enough. And since you were aiming for me, I really should've left you alone. Sorry. I was being an idiot then, and I've been a bit of one this morning."

She pats his arm. "That's alright, darling. You're a man, and one can only expect-"

He shakes his finger at her. "Now, now. You ought to show some respect to your elders."

Penelope laughs. "Wasn't that one of the lessons the Auror's Council was a bit put out with you for not teaching me? Drink your tea."

Moody smiles. "Yes, dear."
