A measly one hour of training a day was never gonna be enough. Not for her, anyway. It hadn't been easy, exactly, but she was still gonna have to make up for it with some good quality solo practice whenever she could snatch the time. Which wasn't gonna be difficult; there were early risers, and then there was Yuffie Kisaragi, ninja extraordinaire, who slept too lightly-and too little, sometimes-for her own good.

And the less time spent hanging around in that dinky little cabin with two strange chicks, the better. What could she say? She liked her own space.

Yuffie spent the first half hour of her early morning workout jogging around, feet beating a nearly silent rhythm against the paved pathways. It was easy, light work; no strain at all. She purposefully took the long route around to the training hall, using the extra few minutes to continue her self-appointed search for plant-life. Not a scrap. Really, she was gonna have to have a word with ol' Jim Vally. This was way unacceptable ( ... )

The beginning katas had finally morphed into more advanced moves, moves mirroring many of the actual named attacks of the Hiten sword. The young man frowned in thought. He could have sworn that there were more named beatings he had taken as a child than the three that were still clear in his mind. The void wobbled slightly at the memories. Shishou would probably be happy to beat them into me again. Not that he was in a hurry to relive any of that time. Really, it was amazing I managed to survive all those years.

He crouched, feeling the jump begin at the tips of his fingers, sailing along nerves and muscles until he shot up in a blurred moment of force. Wind seared his face as he hit the wall, sword and legs pulled forward to make sure that the speed only increased on his way to the high ceiling. As his feet touched the wall he allowed the sword to dip down and touch it for the briefest of moments. The almost imperceptible mark lay millimeters above many such lines, but it was enough. Yes. Slow as it may be, Himura was ( ... )

Whoever this girly-man was, he was fast.

Yuffie barely even had time to be impressed; reflex took hold and she reacted automatically. Her shuriken flashed up as swift as a lightning stroke to intercept the sword, at the same time as she pivoted, her footwork precise, to put herself back in a better position. Too close, her mind whispered. But it'll do in a pinch. She was a little out of practice when it came to fighting people who could so much as match her speed (it was so damn rare, after all), but she was a master of her style for a reason.

She met his eyes and grinned, fearless. This guy was no Sephiroth. "I got bored of looking for trees," she cheerfully informed him, a steely glint somewhere in her grey eyes. "So I thought to myself, hey, why don't I go startle that girly lookin' dude with the sword? That sounds like a great idea!" Heaving a sigh, the little ninja's expression changed to say one thing - 'duh'. "Geez. Whaddya think I'm doing here ( ... )

Looking for... trees? Confusion briefly filled his expression before he pulled the sword away, stepping back and unlocking their weapons. Enemies did not look familiar, but that did not mean he fully trusted her just yet. Blocking his sword, even when not meant to kill, was not an easy feat; much less with such a weighted weapon. If they were on the same side that skill would be a tremendous benefit, especially on the front lines. He had heard rumors of other people from different worlds being recruited by the other countries. Alienating an ally this early in the war would be foolish.

"If you wish to use the training hall, I have finished." Turning away, Himura sheathed his sword. As a ranking officer he had a duty to his subordinates in making sure they were given the time and training they needed in order to be efficient soldiers on the-

Wait.

Did she just call me 'girly?'The hair on the back of his neck raised in annoyance. True, his hair was longer than many men he had seen here kept it. Also true, his slight figure - ( ... )
