Distant Worlds II: More Music From Final Fantasy CD Release Party

Royal/T Cafe, Culver City, CA

I went to the Distant Worlds II: More Music From Final Fantasy CD release party in Culver City, CA at the Royal-T Cafe, where I got to meet Nobuo Uematsu and Arnie, take pictures, and get a signed CD and limited edition poster.

There wasn't much planned at all, just the meet & greet and signing, which was probably enough for everyone there since they were more than content with meeting Nobuo and Arnie.

Meeting them was... awkward. I didn't know what to do or say. I'm always dumbfounded every time I go to meet & greets, but this was one that I felt most personal because of my interest for them. So nothing unusual happened. I shook their hands, took some pictures, and got some other FF CDs signed by Nobuo. I felt awkward asking Nobuo to sign so many CDs for me though, so I only got Distant Worlds: music from Final Fantasy and FFVIII signed, while my brother got FFVII OST and FFX OST signed for me. I could have had more too! But I was content with everything else I got signed... at that time. Looking at my shelf now, I want all my CDs signed! Khehehehe, selfish me. :) Maybe next time.

After meeting them was over, me and my brother waited for the line to finish to see if there was anything else planned. In the meantime, we were entertained with cupcakes and a room showing Square Enix video game trailers. The highlight of the trailers for me were Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, and Kingdom Hearts: Recoded. Watching the KH trailers made me want to listen to my KH OSTs. After meeting Nobuo, I made a new goal to meet Yoko Shimomura someday (composer of the KH series). The cupcakes were good too, but they ruined my poster! I have no idea how frosting got in my bag where my posters were. :( I got quite sad about that. I wanted to sneak behind the table and switch my poster with a new one. Khehehehe. Of course, that's not possible (It was a small room... and I'm too much of a wuss).

After the line was finished, nothing else was planned except for Nobuo and Arnie hanging around and talking with everyone. Oh, and, of course, taking more pictures. Nobuo seemed so suffocated with a crowd of people around him. It looks like he felt awkward, but he also seemed to be used to it from other meet & greets. I waited for the crowd of people to dissipate to ask for another picture with Nobuo. I even asked for a hug from him! Wahhh it was so cool! Well, not the moment itself because I was acting like a geek, but you know what I mean. :)

I also had a chance to chat a bit and listen to Arnie. He was talking about some of the music arranging and its difficulties, particularly "Dancing Mad." He also talked about going back to Japan for their tour there and how excited he was. I was wondering earlier in the day why the Distant Worlds Facebook page changed its main picture that day, saying "Distant Worlds: Returning home," and Arnie talking about returning to Japan explained it. He wants to bring some music that was performed in Japan from past concerts that were never released outside of Japan to the U.S. concerts, which I think he's trying to do for the next season tour of Distant Worlds. He also said he's working on a concert in Los Angeles. Everyone was excited about that since there hasn't been a concert there yet. He had a lot more to talk about, but I didn't get to hear it because my brother was rushing me to leave since he had work in a few hours and because he just wanted to get out of there (hehe, I dragged him to come with me to this).

To end the night, we took a group picture of all the people that stayed, which someone posted on the Distant Worlds Facebook page, but I'm in the side and got cut off. =\ I'm very happy that I was able to attend this event. Seeing Nobuo in person has been one of my dreams in life and I never thought it would happen. It was fulfilling to meet one of the most greatest video game composers. He may be a tiny man, but he is one with great talent. I hope there will be a next time and many more that I will get to meet him.
