From BBC: Hundreds of villagers are helping to map parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo where thick forest and conflict have prevented effective mapping.

Rainforest Alliance is hoping that recording the presence of these villages will aid the government's decisions in allocating logging concessions.

I posted an article from BBC several months ago about the upcoming release of the $100 laptop, the brainchild of Nicholas Negroponte.  His One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) initiative aimed to develop a laptop that thusfar costs about $188, but whose goal was to be useful to children in all sorts of settings in developing countries, i.e. user-friendly, ( Read more... )

Chip-maker Intel has joined forces with the makers of the $100 laptop. 
The agreement marks a huge turnaround for both the not-for-profit One Laptop per Child (OLPC) foundation and Intel.
