Sex: The movie

Yesterday I received 'Sex: The Annabel Chong Story' and watched it before work. The synopsis on the sleeve had this to say: "On January 19,1995, Annabel Chong, a 22-year-old undergraduate in gender studies, embarked on a marathon crusade to secure fame, notoriety and a permanent place in the hallowed halls of fornication. Her feat: having sex with 251 men over the course of one 10-hour day, doubling the record set by a sex worker in Amsterdam. Discover exactly what went into her decision in this fascinating, disturbing and intensely provocative documentary."

It was interesting that the number counted, not the number of men, but the number of sex acts. I had no problem with the movie itself; it approached the subject openly and honestly. My problem was the amount of flak that Annabel and the producers got after releasing the video. It really demonstrated that the double standard we have for sex, has no boundaries. I seriously have problems with a society that looks at a male who is sexually empowered and shrugs it off as him "sewing his wild oats." However, when that same society views a woman that is sexually empowered, they label her as a slut. The word "hypocrite" comes to mind.

double standard, porn, movie
