I got fed up with the two minor leaks on the downstairs toilet and went out and purchased a bigger adjustable wrench, plumbers tape (aka teflon tape) and some small rubber washers. The first leak was between the fill valve and the tank. I drained the toilet and took the fill valve out. *headdesk* The plastic nut that held the fill valve in was installed upside down. I flipped it and tried to install one of the washers, but they were too big. Oh well, at least I fixed the big leak. I then went out and shut off the water so I could attack the smaller leak occurring between the nut and the valve. It was smaller, but still a problem. I drained the system and removed the valve. I coated both ends with plumbers tape (that shit is freaky) and twisted it back on to the nut. I then spent the next ten minutes using two wrenches to tighten the connection between the valve and the nut. I think, at one point, I wanted to see if I could break it. I reattached the feed line and tightened that down just as securely. Moment of truth. I went out and turned the water back on.
As of now there isn't a leak anymore. Huzzah! Part of me wants to convert the valve in my bathroom upstairs, now that I know how to frelling do it.
