Excellence, Piece By Piece

Dec 19, 2008 22:34

Caitlin was only six years old when she became a voice and piano student of my music teacher friend, Joann. At first, Caitlin only took the lessons because her parents wanted her to but after three years of Joann's patient coaching, she learned to appreciate and enjoy music. This is an illustration of the fact that we sometimes need to give things a try before we close our doors to it. Joann's strategy of learning while playing proved to be effective. Her perseverance paid off.

A few years ago, after graduating from music school, Joann was struggling financially. She reached the point where she seriously considered getting a full time job even if it was not related to music. The problem with this option was that she will not be able to pursue her dream of being an excellent Filipino harpist. Good thing for her, and the Philippines as a whole, she decided to stretch her available resources to accomodate the expenses in getting the training she needed to fulfill her dream.

Presently, Joann is continuously undergoing her harp training as well as privately teaching voice and piano lessons to an enormously increasing number of students. She says that when she decided to hold on to the dream and calling that God has put in her heart to pursue, He provided her with everything that she needed and so much more.

Excellence is something that comes to one's life, piece by piece. It is a fruit of all those years of deciding to chose the unpopular over the popular -- just like what Joann did when she held on to her dream when others would have chosen to pursue financial rewards instead. It is the result of knowing what our real purpose and assignment is and in trusting that God will provide everything we need in the process!
