I got it in my head this week that I wanted to see Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Mostly, to be honest, for Michael Caine as the mad-explorer grandpa. So I went last night, only I had to see it in IMAX, which was kind of disorienting because it makes you feel like the movie is happening in your lap.
It was cute, although I have no idea how they steered the giant bees. Dwayne Johnston playing a ukulele and singing a parody of "What A Wonderful World" was almost worth the price of admission.
What actually was worth the price of admission was the trailer for The Hobbit beforehand. I don't need to see that in 3-D or anything, but the dwarf song on a big sound system was quite moving. Also,
Mitchell!
Before the movie (and after) I switched on the TV and found the CNBC broadcast of Westminster. I already knew who won Best In Show, but I still enjoyed watching some of the Group competition. I made a point of checking out Non-Sporting to see the
Schipperke, a breed I've liked since I used to see them at dog shows back home in the 70s. Cute? My word.
I would not have rooted for the Peke to win, but I saw the Toy group and then the BOS competition and realized that every time I saw that dog, with his coat like a fluffy Kleenex-box cover (that was another 70s thing!) and his goblin face, I was laughing in sheer delight.
I wish the Skye Terrier had won its group, that's a beautiful dog. Vlad agreed with me-- he was pretty interested, but mostly in the coated breeds (not my thing, usually.) I think he didn't quite realize the Peke was a dog at all, frankly!
