Sometimes even my pedantry takes a break

Horse sale ads: every once in a while I notice an ad that describes a horse as "quite." "Quite, suitable for beginner," for instance.

Now, I am a pedantic bitch a lot of the time, but the thing is, in the English-speaking Quebec community where my mother grew up, that's actually how a lot of people pronounce "quiet." My mother, strangely, doesn't, but her brother (BestUncleEver!) does.

So--when I see that in a sale ad, I know in my head that it's a case of spellcheck failure, but in my mind I hear my uncle introducing me to his quarter horse mare, telling me "she's very quite" and offering to let me ride her.

So that particular error makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
