Oh, hang on a minute...
It just occurred to me, maybe the reason I defend the Edge and his effects... isn't just because I like his band and am disposed to like him.
I used to teach elementary school, and now I am a medical librarian. I have no background in health and medicine, but I can do a bangup job of finding journal articles on specific topics among the 20,000,000 references in PubMed (actual count) because I have a solid understanding of MeSH terminology and how to bend it to my will. I may not know exactly what's in the literature, but there are tools I can use to produce the result I want.
Without MeSH, the effect would be much like this:
Man... if only the MeSH Database incorporated a wah pedal!
(Also--I fail to see how anyone could watch that clip and then conclude the Edge has no sense of humour.)
