What this community is all about:
We’re a private group of writers who, while our intentions are good, need that little extra kick to get us in gear. So we’ve hatched a devious plot to kick ourselves in the pants: Have our friends do it for us!
We’ve set a goal for ourselves (possibly of writing one chapter a week or every seven days). Each week we write one chapter to our story then post that chapter -- in a members' only post -- for critique and constructive criticism (or concrit) by our friends. Each week, our friends give us concrit and encouragement to keep going.
Basically the idea is to set a writing goal then chip in and kick each others asses to accomplish that goal.
If you're like me and function better with an organized structure but refuse to call it a schedule, this community is for you. We haven't worked out all the details yet, and there are certain rules for concrit requests, but we should have our first official post sometime next week. We'll have a sign-up sheet for those who want to post concrit requests.
If you don't want to participate in the writing goals and only want to participate in the writing discussions, that's okay too! We'll have one or two Prime Discussions hosted by the mods, members-only brainstorming posts, and one day of Writers' Weaknesses wherein we confess our bad writing habits and give suggestions to fix the said bad habits. We'll also have fun things like writing warm-ups set up similarly to
me_challenge's Insanity Wednesdays but with more varied rules for prompts ('write only one sentence', 'what wouldn't your character do', 'describe this', etc.) -- but more on that later.
We're new so we're playing a lot of things by ear.
Also,
oddlittleturtle is new to LJ's community menu. Please go easy on me. I'm still learning how to navigate it. Currently it can DIAF until I figure out how to set up scheduled posts.
