So, it has come to an end. You are now free of the whining about the overpriced townhouse that's inhabited by tenants, that was our favorite thing on the market despite the fact that it's not technically on the market.
All new drama - we have an entirely different place to freak out about! It's a little smaller than the half-house duplex, (same # rooms, just no huge attic-space) and way cheaper - and single-family. We're getting the inspector in on Monday. In the meantime, going crazy on floorplans and budgets and furniture and paint. This would be a great place, in the map location we want it, and the neighborhood is neither pretentious nor trashy. (I suspect the pretentious people may think it's trashy). The current inhabitants love floral wallpaper, and have both framed Elvis prints and Elvis collectible dolls. It's well-kept but outdated. Pretty much ideal, since nobody's sense of fashion is going to match mine anyway. I'm making huge long lists of things I want to do. Some of them are reasonable (peel wallpaper and paint), some are ambitious (install dishwasher, pull down wood paneling), and some are bordering on ridiculous for somebody as inexperienced as us (look under carpet and refinish or lay laminate wood floor, move closet door from room A to room B). Of course, those lists will soon be outdated, but it's still fun to make them.
We're hoping hte inspector has good things to say and that our impression that the house is in good shape and expected to be sound for years to come is a reasonable assumption not a first-time home-buyer's pipe-dream.
