BOOKS!

I have completed reading Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel Dune and here is my review: Herbert has masterfully written a deep, fleshed-out, utterly unappealing world and filled it with complex characters who are impossible to relate to. Now that I have read it I will check the box on the back of my geek credentials and never pick this book up again.

However! The first three Kris Longknife books arrived from Amazon.com a couple days ago. I cracked open the first one and it coaxed genuine manly tears out of me by the end of the third chapter. NOT AN EASY FEAT. This is the first book in the series, mind you. Mike Shepherd has it, whatever it is!

And I am still twitching with anticipation for the April release of The Wise Man's Fear, sequel to The Name of the Wind. Originally I thought I would be returning to the States just as it came out, but since that will not be the case, mebbe I should pre-order a copy and have it shipped here? And while I'm doing that, and since the person I loaned my original copy to refused to give it back (*glare*), maybe I should grab another copy of the first one. With complex books like this one, it pays to review the details. The burning question is: Can I finish the Kris Longknife series and review the original Patrick Rothfuss book before the next one comes out?

I... I don't know if I can do it. But I have to try.

UPDATE: Patrick Rothfuss has announced on his blog that The Wise Man's Fear has been delayed again. Fortunately, in my travels across the Internet I have uncovered other shiny things to try. Up next: the Honorverse! In other news, Patrick Rothfuss has a blog!! :O
