Dearest Father,
We had our first riding lesson today. Madam Hooch was very nice to me. The broom went UP for me on the third time. I flew several feet, but we did not go higher than three feet from the ground. I enjoyed it very much. That breathless feeling when the wind pushes all the hair off your face. I think I could live like that forever. I know how mother felt when she flew, I understand why she loved it so much.
The rest of my classes are also going well. Professor Hydra asked me for everything I knew about our constellation. She complimented you on my name, and I thanked her on your behalf. I worry now that she thinks I know more about other constellations than I do. She seems a little detached from the world. I do think I like her much.
Olive Hornby is very good at Astronomy, and has agree to help me with our first assignment if I help her with our History essay. Our first essay is due at the end of the term. We are to research the discovery and reasons for banning the Unforgivable curses. It is strange to think that something so recent is history, just the same as the ancient Roman and Egyptian Wizarding discoverys. Professor Herbert is a very good teacher. He is able to make the driest topics seem relavent.
I am loving Hogwarts. It’s a bit sad that I won’t get to be here at the same time as Eddie. But I hope his is liking life at home without me. Even if he doesn’t get to spend time with mother, like I did. Why do I keep writing these bits. Elizabeth has written out a timetable for Minerva, her and I. It is wonderful having people I already knew here with me. I thin Olive and I may become good friends, but it must be difficult for students like Tom Riddle, who knew nothing about the school before they got their letter.
Give my love to Eddie,
I’ll see you both at Christmas,
Love,
