Bellatrix Black: 15 December 1965

Dear Mother;

I received your letter today and I really think you should consider getting a new owl. I know you’ve had Noctua for a long time but she looks like an oven-ready hair-brush she’s getting a little decrepit. She also seems to be getting quite wobbly and I don’t think she can see very well any more. It’s a bit embarrassing to have a bird like her delivering the post. We do have standards to maintain. You could always mount her head on a nice piece of oak (or maybe cherry) and hang it in the hall with the House-elves. I think Noctua would like that, and Merlin knows she’s earned it. If it’s good enough for the House-elves, it’s certainly good enough for her. Please think about it. Now is the perfect time after all.
I’ve got some ridiculous potions essay to finish, so I’m stopping now.

Love to Father

Bellatrix

Ps About your letter. Of course I’m delighted to know that the Lestranges, Malfoys and Dolohovs are joining us for New Year’s Eve.. I’ll be spending the holidays in Tibet looking for yetis
