Uriel has seen entire civilizations burn. He has seen wars and battlefields and lines drawn in the sand and he has seen that above all else nothing changes for humanity.
There is no pride in him when he insults humanity, there is no pleasure in him when he inspires anger in the vessel.
It's only truth, and what brings him pleasure instead is the chance to freely promise harm to the vessel. Not that he can bring his full might against the vessel.
Not that he is allowed to kill Dean Winchester.
But he can promise threats, and give token injuries to Dean, if truly pressed.
Uriel leaves the vessel alone and straddles time itself, looking for his reason (it's there, in the past, he can see only glimpses but it's there, the indelible traces of Lucifer before his Fall) looking for his chances (Alastair caught, alive, given to Dean for a test he won't pass) and looking ahead, and even as he sees a multitude of futures that are successes, he sees failures and worse and above all else -
Uriel returns to Castiel, at the correct time, and trusts himself to the courses of fate, and to the decisions of those above him, and most importantly to how set he is in his path, how strong he is to act from a position of faith.
Uriel follows Castiel to a barn, and knows that what he's planning, what he's doing is right.
