It takes a moment for Sebastian to register the fact that Blaine has said anything at all because he’s too focused on that patch of skin at the dip of Blaine’s collarbone. He hums, sucking another kiss onto the already reddened skin before he lifts his head up to look at Blaine. “What?” he asks distractedly.
Blaine looks at him quietly for a moment. “Come here,” he says in a low voice, drawing Sebastian up with a gentle hand to his arm. Sebastian goes willingly, moving to lean over Blaine’s naked body, hands planted on the pillow beside his head. Blaine kisses him then just like he always kisses after sex - slow, soft, lazy. He doesn’t draw it out for too long though and just when Sebastian moves deepen the kiss, he pulls away.
Sebastian can’t find it in him to be frustrated though because Blaine just starts to nuzzle his face, skimming his nose lightly along his jaw, across his cheek pressing the tip to Sebastian’s nose in a tiny Eskimo kiss. Sebastian will never admit out loud how much he loves it when Blaine does that but he does rub his nose against his in return - just a little bit, enough to make Blaine’s eyes scrunch up with a smile.
“Move,” Blaine mumbles, shifting beneath him until Sebastian rolls onto his side.
“What are you doing?” Sebastian asks.
Blaine scoots closer, sheets still tangled around his lower half as he hooks an ankle over Sebastian’s legs and fits his head under his chin. His breath ghosts across Sebastian’s chest hot and a little ticklish when he answers “Cuddling.” Sebastian smiles into Blaine’s hair, bringing his arms around his shoulders as he tugs him tighter against his chest.
He secretly loves this too - the way Blaine goes so completely boneless in his arms sometimes, pressing lazy kisses to whatever patch of skin his lips can find whether it’s somewhere completely cheesy like over his heart or somewhere just plain weird like the patch of skin between his shoulder and underarm.
Tonight, he’s not doing any of those things. He’s just breathing steadily against Sebastian; arm draped over his waist and palm pressing against his lower back. It’s then that Sebastian remembers -
“What were you talking about?”
“Hmm?”
“Before. You asked me something.” Blaine shifts against him, drawing his ankle further up Sebastian’s leg and curling his palm into a half fist against his back. “Blaine?” Sebastian prompts when Blaine doesn’t reply. “Are you falling asleep on me again?”
“No, no...” Blaine lifts his head then and Sebastian frowns at the serious expression on his face.
“What’s wrong?” he asks softly.
“If I tell you, you have to promise not to get angry.”
Sebastian grins, “You’re the one who throws the hissy fits in this relationship, killer.” Blaine rolls his eyes but still looks a little distressed so Sebastian cups his face with his hand and says, “I won’t get angry. Promise.”
Blaine smiles and covers Sebastian’s hand with his own and takes a deep breath. “Why don’t you ever say it?” he asks again.
“Say what?” Sebastian asks, brushing his thumb along the triangle of Blaine’s eyebrow.
“That you love me.”
Sebastian freezes, his whole body going tense. Blaine feels his reaction and tenses in response, drawing his hand away from over Sebastian’s and inhaling sharply as his eyes search Sebastian’s face, waiting for an answer. Sebastian doesn’t know how to respond and for a moment he just stares quietly into Blaine’s eyes, hoping to find an answer written there. There’s nothing but the warmth of a sentiment Sebastian’s too afraid to name.
And that’s just it - he’s too afraid. He’s too afraid to admit that he might love Blaine.
“What makes you think I do?” his voice sounds steadier than he feels.
Blaine smiles, “The way you wash my hair when we shower together,” he says and Sebastian frowns because that is not the response he was expecting. But Blaine doesn’t seem to be finished. “The way you grab my hand and tangle our fingers right before you come, the way you sometimes call me in the middle of the day to say you miss me and can’t wait to get home, the way you hug my pillow when I’m not in bed -”
“I do not!” Sebastian interrupts.
“But you do,” Blaine replies and before Sebastian can protest he says, “I saw you. That day I forgot my wallet? I had to come back and you were practically suffocating yourself with my pillow.”
Sebastian rolls his eyes, “Okay, fine.” he huffs
“Okay fine that you cuddle with my pillow or okay fine that you love me?” Blaine asks.
Sebastian hesitates for a second but the hopeful look in Blaine’s eyes is too much. “Both,” he says quietly.
Blaine’s smile shines brighter than the morning sun as he cups Sebastian’s face and pulls him into a kiss. “Say it,” he whispers against his lips.
“Say what?” Sebastian teases, taking Blaine’s top lip between his own and sucking on it gently.
Blaine nips his lip playfully before he breathes, “That you love me.”
Sebastian sighs, fixing his eyes on a spot over Blaine’s head as he says “I love you,” too quickly for it to make much sense.
“No, come on.” Blaine tugs at his waist, forces Sebastian to look him in the eyes. “Properly...”
“You are very pushy tonight,” Sebastian observes. Blaine just grins and waits. Sebastian swallows, forcing himself to look into Blaine’s eyes. It feels heavy, just the sound of those three words in his head and saying them out loud, slowly and with his eyes locked on Blaine’s makes them even heavier.
“I love you,” the words come out soft, quiet like a secret being shared between them. Sebastian doesn’t like how completely vulnerable he feels but Blaine’s face is just as open and vulnerable.
Blaine brings their foreheads together, closing a hand in Sebastian’s hair and taking a shuddery breath. “Thank you,” he breathes and Sebastian holds him close and they stay like that for a long moment until Blaine says, “No one’s said that to me in a long time,” he whispers. “Not since...”
He trails off but Sebastian knows what he was going to say.
Kurt.
Not since Kurt.
For some reason, this is what makes him pull back and kiss Blaine again, kiss him hard and fast and then soft and slow. “I love you,” he repeats, brushing the words against the corner of Blaine’s mouth. “I love you.” He kisses Blaine’s jaw. “I love you.” His cheek. “I love you.” The tip of his nose. “I love you.” Each time he says it, it rolls off his tongue a little easier and he feels lighter so he just keeps on saying it until Blaine grabs him by the back of his neck, seals their mouths together once more.
“Now your turn,” Sebastian says when they break away, breathing heavily. “Say it.”
“Say what?”
“That you love me too.” Sebastian replies, rolling his eyes.
Blaine grins cheekily at him and gives a half shrug, “What makes you think I do?”
