a/n: There’s a reason I’m posting this early. This chapter was getting a bit too long so I had to divide it into two parts. I’m posting one today and the next one will be Wednesday night/Thursday morning as planned. I’m really enjoying writing this fic and it keeps getting bigger and bigger in my head. I want to thank everyone who is reading this/commenting on it. Thank you so much guys <3 I’ve shipped Kurt/Sebastian since his character was announced - I’m so glad more people are getting into this ship.
read/reblog on tumblr“I don’t know why you’re here.” Kurt huffs as he slams the car door behind him. “It’s not like we plan on talking about each other’s day over coffee or anything.”
“Is that what you’d like to do?” Sebastian asks with a grin. “Because hey, if talking about math and homework and what crap they passed for lunch in the cafeteria is some weird foreplay ritual for you then I’m up for it.”
Kurt ignores him, “Thank god for Rachel because if I have to spend this whole evening with you I might just decide Blaine isn’t worth putting up with you.”
“He isn’t.” Sebastian replies smoothly. “But I’m worth putting up with me.”
Sebastian has no intention of talking about their day. He’s much more interested in making out in the backseat of Kurt’s Navigator. But mostly, he’s here to annoy Kurt. And Blaine. Because the look on his face when Sebastian had walked up behind Kurt after Warbler practice, wrapped an arm around his waist and asked ready to go? had been priceless. Kurt had had no choice but to play along and he had been fantastic at it. He seems to be regretting it now that they’re actually here.
Sebastian knows how sacred these faux coffee dates with Blaine are for Kurt - he’s probably going to be constantly irritated when he looks up and sees Sebastian there instead of Blaine but well, Kurt had made a decision when he agreed to this.
“Just stuff your face with biscotti and say as little as you can, alright?” Kurt says with a sigh as he pulls open the door to the Lima Bean. They’ve barely walk into the coffee shop when a small brunette girl launches herself at Kurt.
“Kurt!” she exclaims, throwing her arms around him and tugging him down so she can kiss his cheek.
Sebastian is familiar with all of Kurt’s friends despite the fact that he doesn’t strictly know them. It’s inevitable though that, after hours of Facebook stalking Kurt he would learn all their names. And even if he doesn’t know all their names, this small brunette is unmistakable. Rachel Berry is all over Kurt’s profile. She writes on his wall a minimum of five times a day. From what he knows, she’s dating Kurt’s step brother, is the captain of the New Directions and is freakishly over enthusiastic. Sebastian should have known she would be just as bubbling with energy in person.
“Oh my god, I miss you,” Rachel says as she pulls back and starts playing with the lapels of Kurt’s blazer.
Kurt’s eyes crinkle when he smiles and replies, “I miss you too.”
Rachel’s gaze falls on Sebastian then and she frowns for a moment before comprehension dawns on her face. She pushes past Kurt and holds out a hand to him. “Sebastian Smythe, isn’t it?”
Sebastian nods and grins, “Kurt tell you about me?” he asks and ignores the way Kurt rolls his eyes behind Rachel.
“Oh no, I stalked your Facebook.” Rachel tells him airily as they shake hands and Sebastian’s eyebrows shoot up. “It’s nothing personal. I just like to know who my competition is.”
Sebastian expects her to question him on what he’s doing here but she seems rushed and simply turns to wave them over to a table. He moves to follow her but Kurt grabs his arm and halts him mid step. “Wait, shouldn’t we order first?” he asks. “Why don’t you have a seat and Sebastian and I -”
“Oh no,” Rachel cuts in, “I ordered for you already. I’m in a bit of a rush today so I don’t have much time.”
Kurt presses his lips together. He’d obviously been hoping to give Sebastian another warning about something because he looks a little disgruntled. Sebastian gives him a questioning frown and smirks when Kurt’s fingers dig painfully into his arm for a second before he lets go and takes a seat beside Rachel.
“A non fat mocha for you,” she hands Kurt his drink and holds out the other cup to Sebastian but then stops. “I thought you’d be with Blaine so I got a medium drip but...” she trails off, as if only realizing the significance of Sebastian being there instead of Blaine.
Sebastian looks at Kurt who is staring at him with a pointed expression and it hits him what that warning he wanted to give must have been about. Kurt obviously hasn’t told his friends at McKinley about them yet and the look on his face says he has no intention of doing so. He doesn’t know why that irks him. It’s like Kurt is keeping this under wraps for as long as he can get away with until he gets Blaine and files Sebastian away as nothing but a strategic player in his game.
Well, fuck. Sebastian may not mind using other people for his benefit but he sure as hell isn’t going to play along to Kurt’s game.
“It’s okay, I’ll get my own.” he says waving off the offered cup. He has no desire to be associated with anything Blaine does, he’s not here as a substitute, he’s here to kick him straight out of the picture.
“Make sure you get a ton of biscotti.” Kurt’s tone is level but his eyes narrow just the slightest.
Sebastian simply grins and nods. Kurt’s brought this on himself.
When he returns, Kurt no longer looks like the happy, relaxed person he seems to be around his old friends. His posture is rigid, fingers curled tightly around his cup and his smile has a hint of artificiality to it. Rachel doesn’t seem to notice this change; she’s talking animatedly, her eyes wide and hands flying everywhere.
Sebastian sits down quietly opposite Kurt, unnoticed by either of them. He stirs some sugar into his coffee and keeps his gaze trained on Kurt as he licks the stirrer. Kurt’s eyes flicker over to him then and narrow. Sebastian grins, replacing the stirrer with a piece of biscotti. He hollows his cheek around the biscuit a little bit before he bites off a piece.
He isn’t usually this...blatant. But he decides he should be more often because it is way too much fun watching Kurt’s eyes narrow further and his nostrils flare in annoyance. It gives him a strong sense of satisfaction - and when he notices the way Kurt’s eyes have darkened a little, he can’t help but feel a hot lick of pleasure course through his body.
Blaine Anderson be damned, he is so getting into this boy’s pants eventually. The look in Kurt’s eyes promises him as much.
“Kurt, are you listening to me?” Rachel asks, snapping her fingers and breaking both of them out of their reverie.
Kurt blinks and looks away from Sebastian. “Sorry, what was that?”
“Why are you so distracted today?” Rachel asks. “Is it Blaine?” she asks with a frighteningly eager smile, leaning forward.
“Oh I don’t think its Blaine,” Sebastian says with a grin, still staring at Kurt.
Rachel looks at him as if just remembering his presence and then snaps her head back to Kurt whose eyes are boring into Sebastian with the same quiet dark intensity from a moment ago. “He’s right. I’m too distracted by the evidence of neglected skin care on Sebastian’s face.” he comments dryly.
“Just say my face, babe. You know how much you and your mouth love it.” Sebastian says with a wink.
Rachel’s jaw drops a little as she continues looks between them. Her face slowly changes, clearly bursting with questions but before she can voice any of them, her phone buzzes. She turns distractedly to the little black device and her face lights up immediately. She types a hurried reply and is grinning widely when she looks back up, her expression no longer painted with the hunger of curiosity.
“I’m sorry, but that was Artie. He needs the cast and crew in the auditorium immediately.” she says excitedly. Kurt smiles at her but fails again to make it look genuine. Rachel gathers her things, pointing a finger at Kurt as she stands up. “Keep your phone close, I’m going to call you as soon as I’m done.” she says in the same tone Blaine had used the day before - it clearly says she has questions.
“I will,” Kurt says tiredly.
Rachel nods and turns to Sebastian looking a little apprehensive but eager nonetheless. “I expect you’ll be coming too?” she asks.
Sebastian has no idea what she’s talking about but he’s desperate for her to leave so he nods curtly. “I’ll be there.”
The second Rachel is gone Kurt kicks him under the table - hard. Sebastian hisses, resisting the urge to double over and glares at Kurt. “What the hell was that for?”
“For being incapable of acting like a decent human being for once!” Kurt retorts, glaring at him with equal intensity. “Rachel is not going to rest until I explain all of your blatant subtext to her - that is if she hasn’t already come up with some sort of over the top explanation for herself. And then all of New Directions will know including Finn and by extension - my dad.”
“Oh I’m sorry; I didn’t realize you wanted to keep this a secret.” Sebastian snaps. “Because the way you were acting after practice certainly didn’t give any indication. Or was that act only for Blaine’s benefit?”
“You don’t get it do you?” Kurt asks, shaking his head, “I’m going to have to explain this to my dad.”
“So?”
“So, he knows I’m in love with Blaine and I’ve never mentioned you except in passing as the annoying roommate and now he’s going to have questions. About you, about us -”
“This is pathetic,” Sebastian says, slamming his coffee down on the table harder than necessary. Sure he was on board with the whole boyfriend’s thing, but he never signed up for parental drama.
“You are pathetic,” Kurt counters. “Do you have any idea how much shit I’m going to have put up with now? I told you a relationship means more to me than just making out and all the people in my life know that about me.”
“Why are you making this such a big deal? Who cares what they think?” Sebastian asks.
Kurt huffs, “I can’t tell them the truth. Finn, Rachel, my dad...they’re all going to think this is some sort of semi-serious relationship and this -” he gestures between them. “- isn’t a relationship despite what you might like to make yourself believe.” he rubs his forehead looking miserable. “You and Blaine were the only people who were supposed to know.” he says quietly, shaking his head. “I was going to tell him eventually once we got together.”
“You seriously thought you could keep this to Dalton?” Sebastian asks raising an eyebrow. “That you’d do whatever you want with me and then get Blaine too without anyone ever finding out about us?”
“Yes!” Kurt says exasperatedly.
“Well you didn’t think it through very well did you?” Sebastian shoots back.
“No, okay?” Kurt snaps, “I didn’t! I didn’t think this through just like I didn’t think through anything in my life. God I don’t even know what I’m doing! Just -” and without warning he gets up and starts towards the door, not giving Sebastian a second glance.
“What the fuck?” Sebastian mutters as he rushes to follow him. “Kurt!” he calls as Kurt marches across the parking lot towards his Navigator. “Kurt, what the hell?!” Sebastian grabs his arm and spins him around. “You want to tell me what’s got that stick shoved up your ass?”
Kurt doesn’t reply and steadily avoids his gaze, looking agitated and miserable at the same time. Sebastian searches his face for some sort of answer, hands gripping his arms tight, keeping him pressed against the door. “What did you and Rachel talk about when I left?” he asks because there’s no way that Sebastian is the sole cause of Kurt’s mood right now. Kurt’s been looking pissed off ever since Sebastian came back with his coffee.
“I don’t want to talk about it,” Kurt says, wrenching his arms out of his grip. “Especially not with you,” he turns back to his car and fishes out his keys.
“Well you’re going to have to.” Sebastian says, snatching the keys from Kurt’s hands.
“Give them back.” Kurt says through gritted teeth.
“Not until you tell me what’s wrong,” Sebastian says firmly.
He doesn’t know why he’s so interested in knowing what the hell is going on in Kurt’s head. Sure, he likes to guess at things whenever Kurt’s walking around their room acting particularly frustrated but he’s never felt this burning desire to know. A tiny voice in his head speaks up and tells him it’s because he wants an upper hand over Blaine and having Kurt tell him something that’s bothering him before he runs to Blaine is going to give him that same sense of satisfaction that stealing Kurt away after practice had.
“Why are you doing this, it’s not like you care.” Kurt says with a frustrated huff. “Just give me the keys, we’ll go back to Dalton and I’ll make out with you until I stop wanting to punch your face, okay?”
“Tempting,” Sebastian says with a smirk. “But you’re going to tell me right now. And then I’ll let you drive us back to Dalton to make out.”
“Why are you doing this?” Kurt repeats. “What is your problem?”
“My problem is that you’re still treating me like a tool instead of like your boyfriend.”
“I don’t like you. How do you expect me to act like I do?” Kurt snaps and Sebastian half expects him to stomp his foot or punch him or something because he’s buzzing with so much pent up energy, Sebastian can feel it.
Sebastian acts on instinct; he reaches down and kisses Kurt hard on the mouth. Kurt responds immediately, biting down on Sebastian’s lip and kissing back with fervor. Sebastian pulls away, grinning. “Well first of all you need to stop lying to yourself,” he says in a low voice. “Because you very obviously do like me, even if it’s on a purely physical level.”
Kurt’s mouth twists into a little scowl and Sebastian’s grin only grows wider. Kurt can’t deny he likes kissing Sebastian even if he wants to. So when he huffs and looks away from Sebastian’s gaze, the defensive crossing of his arms gives away his defeat. “What do you want from me here?” he asks, closing his eyes and looking like he’s holding back from saying a lot more.
“I want you to tell me what’s got you so upset,” Sebastian says, cupping Kurt’s face in his hand. He strokes a thumb down his cheek, watching the familiar flutter of Kurt’s eyes as he sighs.
“We’re in public,” Kurt says softly. Sebastian frowns for a moment before he realizes that’s not Kurt’s answer to his question. He looks around the slowly darkening parking lot before turning back to Kurt.
“No one’s here,” he says and steps even closer to the other boy.
“Wait,” Kurt says with a hand to his chest.
Sebastian raises his eyebrows. “I’m not going to let this go until you tell me.”
Kurt sighs. “At least get in the car...”
Sebastian shrugs and steps back to let Kurt unlock the car. To his surprise instead of getting into the driver’s seat, Kurt climbs into the back. “Well?” he calls after Sebastian. Sebastian grins and follows him, already knowing how this is going to end - no matter how much talking they fit in before they get to the making out.
