So I was flipping through my Jump and looking for something shiny and new to read and stopped when I came across a basketball manga with decent art and what I have determined to be a lulzy tone and large cast like that of TeniPuri. If that description piques your interest, the comic is called Kuroko no Basuke, and it is fucking ridiculous. Also, totally gay.
I am making this post because I just finished chapter 41 (ahahaha;;) and the end of that chapter was so overwhelmingly gay that I couldn't not say something about it. Seirously. It reads like "shiny new boyfriend is better than the cocky (lol cocks) old boyfriend". I just, it's really gay.
I am starting to wonder if I am incapable of reading things as being not-gay, but then I read my American comics wherein many of my favorite ships are het and feel less sketchy about the rainbow-goggles through which I am reading my manga. LOL, you guys, seriously wtf.
BUT ANYWAY in addition to being lulzy and gay in a way that makes me want to call it The TeniPuri of Basketball Manga, it has a pair of protags who both hit my personal preferences: There's Kagami, who is DUMB and FIESTY and has red hair and talks like a punk and totally just got back from ~living in America~ (LOL) and is generally gruff and would seem like a dick except he clearly has an ooey-gooey center of d'awww. AND THEN there is Kuroko, who is tiny and doesn't say much and generally looks weak and helpless but says bold crazy shit when it needs to be said and has a ~super special ability~ and OH MY GOD THIS COMIC IS RIDICULOUS but also is kind of badass. The theme is clearly all about ~teamwork~ and ~partnership~ and ~loving what you do~ and it is so predictable and stupid but the characters - even the supporting characters and the characters on rival teams - are kind of moe and make it fun to read even though I know that LOL it is a shounen sports manga, it is really not hard to guess what ~dramatic twists~ will happen. ALSO THERE IS A WEALTH OF MEGANE CHARACTERS.
I mean, I'll be honest: IT'S NO OOFURI. Oofuri is the best sports manga, like, ever, and even the VAST AMOUNTS OF GAY in Kuroko no Basuke sort of pale in comparison to the hand-holding and confessions of feelings in the glory that is Oofuri's third episode. It really is more like TeniPuri, with maybe a tiny bit of Eyeshield thrown in because humor, but the pacing and tone seem somehow more low-key to me than both of those... TeniPuri really is its closest match, I think. So, uh, if you liked Tenipuri, consider reading this crazy gay basketball manga. Because it is crazy. And they have lulzy basketball abilities (not yet to the level of Tezuka wiping out the dinosaurs or Fuji shooting eyelasers, but CLOSE), and somehow the rival teams all seem to kind of get along with each other (so far) because ~they love playing basketball~ or something, the dweebs.
Anyway, you should read it. Because I am reading it and feel lonely without you, orz.
