I said that I would provide an update about Riley. Below is a message I posted in my local Cat Group on FB, which has received a considerable level of response...
Yesterday my beloved Riley was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, by Hawthorn Vets. His T4 level was alarmingly off the scale. He had all the symptoms including weight-loss, excessive drinking and urinating.
I am waiting for medication to arrive by mail to start him on twice daily therapy and then a further blood test in 3-4 weeks to establish if thyroid levels are coming down.
There is an alternative - iodine radio therapy. Expensive but apparently very effective.
Has anyone in the group had experience of treating their cat for this condition? Any ideas where the nearest Radiotherapy Centre to Brighton might be?
Needless to say I am in bits just now. Any similar experiences and knowledge of this condition would be appreciated.
