What was that again?
Today I would like to talk about lyrics. And how some of our favorite pop songs are notoriously incomprehensible, and dare I say borderline abusive to the English language. As a self-confessed member of the grammar police this fact used to really get to me, that some of their best songs are so confusing. Whenever anyone would say, wtf does that mean? I wouldn't have a decent answer, and then cue snickering about shitty pop music. But then I came to realize that great music doesn't have to make sense! Do you know why Nick wants you to tell him why? Or what? I sure don't, but it's still one of my favorite songs!
I think this was the iconic wtf song? Ridiculous amounts of airplay and yet annoyingly catchy. Years later, and they still can't even explain what exactly it means. Or, they're not telling us at least.
Out of all of their songs, this one has always baffled me the most. Not quite as offense in the grammar department, but still...wtf? I always wondered if some guy on a street corner holding an "apocalypse is coming" sign was the inspiration for this song. Yeah.
And of course, the Rock Stupid Girlfriend Song. Thanks to nopseud for reminding me of this mess. I have no words for this.
