Challenge # 19: Twisted

Magneto could read the headlines. Twisted, disturbed, and warped they called him. They called him a terrorist for the acts he had done. He was the monster that lived under the bed to steal “normal” children away and make them into freaks like him.

But was it really him who was the monster? The so-called normal people were the ones who waged massive wars. They slaughtered each other like cattle for no real reason. They were the ones who lynched the so-called mutants simply for being different. They tried to use every tool in their arsenal against them, whether it was getting fellow mutants to turn against them or legislate the ways they could use their bodies and minds with their laws.

All Magneto did was provide a home and purpose to those that society had abandoned. He was their caretaker even when their own family by blood left them to die for the gifts that they had been granted. They tried to sweep his people under the rug, to ignore them. He refused to let them be ignored and trampled upon by society. He would be their voice, their crusader. Even when all other voices went quiet his would be there resounding ‘til the end. He had been for many years and would be for his entire life.

Every rallying cause needed a figure head, he reminded himself. If he succeeded the machine would boost his power beyond belief. He could walk and show the normal people just how close to gods the mutants could be. If it did not boost his power he would be a martyr to the cause of homo superior. They would weep over his body and their rage would steer them into a new life. There was no downside to this plan; it had been built expertly by his hands.

"So should I start the machine, boss?" Toad asked, glee in his voice. His hand paused over the lever.

Magneto looked around at the Brotherhood that surrounded him. Not a single evidence of fear was shown. They all knew the risks he was taking were completely necessary to their cause. They knew that it could be no one other than him. No other mutant was nearly so well known for being the voice of their people and his powers would be the most powerful if they were amplified. Not a tear would be shed by them unless it was to further their cause. He had taught them well.

Magneto gave a sage-like smile. His resolve was resolute, no matter what his fate would be. "Yes. Let the age of homo superior dawn at last."
The lever was pulled and Magneto’s body stiffened as the surge of power hit him all at once. The electricity and mutagens flowed through his body, feeling like fire burning through his veins and making his brain feel hyper aware of everything that was going on. He thought brightly of the future, letting that thought guide him like a beacon.
