1/2c soft butter
1/2c shortening
2/3c brown sugar, packed
2 egg yolks
1/2t salt
1t vanilla
1/2t almond
2c SIFTED sperry drifted snow flour
2 egg whites, unbeaten
1c FINELY chopped nuts, jelly or jam
Beat butter, sugar, egg yolks, salt & flavoring together, until fluffy.
Add sifted flour & mix to moderately stiff dough.
Using level tablespoonful dough for each cookie, roll dough between palms of hands into small balls about 1" diameter.
Dip the balls into unbeaten egg white & roll in the chopped nuts.
Place about 2" apart on ungreased baking sheets.
Using thumb make a depression in center of each ball.
Fill w/jam or jelly.
Bake in mod low oven, 325° for 25 mins
cool thoroughly before storing
Makes 3-3.5doz cookies
