Buggin'
On Thursday, I went for a bike ride in the evening and the air was thick with bugs. One of them hit my eye. I looked in the mirror and it appeared to be gone but I flushed it a little anyway.
On Friday, Carrie and I took a road trip in my car. I recently had my car repaired and it fared quite nicely. First we went to Milwaukee to get a new wheel for my car. I busted up the old wheel by slamming into a curb due to icy conditions in January. I bought the wheel at a junkyard located in a somewhat sketchy neighborhood. The "office" where the transaction took place was spartan, with thick (bulletproof?) glass separating the employees from the hostile outside world, and an old RC Cola machine containing various canned beverages at 50 cents apiece and labeled "Use at your own risk!". The men behind the counter were gruff but gave me what I wanted. The wheel was only $50 and was almost new, a good deal for my "luxury sedan" hand-me-down.
We then proceeded to Kenosha, home of the state's only White Castle. Peter, jcreed, and I had considered visiting it a few months ago but decided against it as we weren't totally sure it existed, but this time I was able to make phone contact with the restaurant before my departure. A billboard on I-94 heading south from Milwaukee confirmed that White Castle was to be found at "exit 344, turn left". After arriving, I talked to someone who claimed that White Castle had attempted to start a restaurant in Oak Creek (close to Milwaukee and half an hour less driving from Madison) but was unsuccessful. My eye was bothering me still and I was starting to get a bit of a sore throat, but I still enjoyed my Slyders®. Carrie was surprisingly pleased by her food, but still didn't think the drive was worth it. We then proceeded back to Madison. We saw a little of the jazz festival taking place downtown before I went home. As my eye still bothered me, I flushed it some more and discovered that, in fact, the bug was still there. But I got it out, and my eye has felt fine since.
However, since then, I've been feeling somewhat ill. At this point I'm coughing and congested. I think this is not due to the bug but because Carrie gave me what she had a few days prior. Hopefully I'll get over it soon.
