I love the sunsets on the flat desert horizon,
The cool breeze as the sun goes down
Trails of dust glittering in gilded light
The moon rising over ragged mountains
Their rocky faces alight with the orange glow
Reflected by the shifting sky that arches
Endless above my head.
I love the coyotes that howl at sunrise
Invisible among the dusty rock faces
As the mountains shade the coming light
Silhouetted against the brightening eastern sky
While the moon gently lays to rest its
Soft silver beams behind the horizon as day breaks
And cool air drifts down the slopes before the hot day.
I love the way the sky curves like a giant dome in afternoon
The blue of a rich painting with clouds spotted here and there
The sun beating down on the desert sand
As cacti bloom in late spring and cover their once
Dull green with vibrant reds and yellows
Like smooth tissue paper as hawks
Fly lazily overhead, their song never quite the same
As they search for their meal among the sands
Which shift constantly with time.
