Update on Milly

Yesterday afternoon Mom called to tell me that Grandma was doing pretty badly and that if I wanted to see her one more time, I should drive down. So, I drove down there trying not to cry (its hard to drive when you are crying). Once I got there, it was about what I thought it would be. She looked pretty bad and could barely talk (she's not supposed to talk but she kept trying to because she wanted to tell me how much she loved me and how proud of me she is). She is having horrible trouble breathing because she has fluid in her lungs and has pneumonia. At 86, having pneumonia is pretty darn life threatening. Poor Grandma can't even cough because the surgery she had was in her abdomen. Its all pretty touch and go. I'm hopeful, but trying to be realistic.

Anyway, she's using a CPAP machine to breath but will not be intubated. She has a DNR in place and the Doctor confirmed that yesterday (apparently, she had to override that when she went into surgery because surgery is different than every day life). Poor Dad had to sign the DNR for her.

I'm about to call Mom to see how Grandma is today. I'm just really glad I got to go down and see her. I think its been hard on Eric and Dan to not be able to be there (my brothers - live on the east coast).
