http://alioth.livejournal.com/327023.html She's going to be sending care packages of food to those who are in a financial situation where they can't afford groceries. If you know anyone in need, tell them about this, if you don't know anyone, pass the link on anyway.
This weekend, I went to the zoo with Alex, and on the way there we saw a young man with a kitten sitting on the street asking for change. He had a little can of food for his kitten, and the kitten was sleeping in a towel and he was petting him. It made me cry, but it also made me happy to realize that the homeless aren't always alone, and that they to have pets that they love, and bring them happiness in their lives. When I gave him some money he said to me "We both appreciate it." and I couldn't help but feel touched and want to help.
I think I'm going to volunteer to be a food distributor in Chicago for Pets of the Homeless, to try and make sure that their companions have food and the money they collect and go towards feeding themselves or put towards other needs. It made me really realize, I'm not the only one who loves my animals.
http://www.petsofthehomeless.org/ Other than that, today I'm going to the home of a woman who has terminal lung cancer to help her make provisions for her cat when she dies, because she simply will not rest or find peace until this is done. I'm scared and nervous. The cat is terrified of other people. I hope I can help. D:
