This has been the wildest week ever for mage portal requests. Allow me to enumerate. (Am I using that word correctly?)
1. A random fiftyish player comes up to me last week in Stormwind and says "Can you fort me in Darnassus?" I was like "Fort you?" He says "yeah, in darnassus." I was like "No, I can't fort you anywhere, that's a priest spell." He goes "oh. I thought that was mages that can fort." And he runs off to harass a nearby priest. I quickly ported to Dalaran.
2. I get a tell from the alt of a girl I know, asking if I can port her to Theramore. I say yeah, no problem, if you can get me a rune of portals from a reagent vendor. She says sure, invites me to group. In partychat she asks where the reagent vendor is in SW. There is a level 80 death knight in the group with us. He says "Why are you looking for the reagent vendor?" She says "So I can get Fuschia the reagent she needs to port me." He says "Why isn't SHE buying the reagent?" The girl is like "it's totally fair, she could be charging me gold for it." I said "She's the one that wants the portal. She can either pay me, or she can simply get me the reagent. I'm doing her a favor by asking for the reagent instead of 5g." And he's like, "No. You're a mage, it's your JOB to port her, it's your JOB to have reagents." He then proceeds to tell me that I can buy reagents cheaper off the AH. I asked him if he ate paint chips as a kid.
3. I'm standing in Stormwind (again) and a level 29 paladin runs up to me and asks "Can you port me to Southshore." I said "uh... well, no, I can't." He says "cmon, I just need a port to southshore, I'll pay you, don't be so rude." I was like "No, really, I CAN'T port you to Southshore." He slapped me and ran off. /sigh
Moral of the story here: If you're a mage, don't stand around in Stormwind.
