I just saw the movie Billy Elliott for the first time and I am absolutely smitten by it! And Jamie Bell, who played Billy, is brilliant!
I have really been considering stereotypes lately and the more I think about it, the more I realize how wrong it is to judge others by "norms". I'm not including sociopaths or obviously mentally ill people in that statement, but I think that it is unfair to require people to act a certain way based on cultural expectations. Most certainly, chastising them for failing to be like others is unacceptable.
I'm not a feminist in the traditional sense of the world, but I will vehemently defend a woman's right to do the job of her choice for the same pay as a man doing the same quality of work. I enjoy having my doors opened, but I am just as likely to hold the door open for the man behind me.
So, here's to all of you who aren't afraid to buck the system and break the mold! I adore you for it and respect you immensely!!!
