2014 Year In Review thingy

Yes, I've done this every year since 2009. It's about the only thing I still use LiveJournal for.

1. What did you do in 2014 that you'd never done before?
   Tried Filipino food
2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
   I didn't make any resolutions. This year I resolve to write & publish something in an academic journal.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
   Lots of people had babies, but no one really close to me.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
   Nope, no deaths this year.
5. What places did you visit?
   Walt Disney World! And Columbia, MO.
6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?
   I'd like a full-time job. Please and thank you.
7. What date from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory?
   August 17th - Steely Dan concert.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
   Getting medical insurance!
9. What was your biggest failure?
   I didn't manage to save any money for emergencies.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
    No. (Knock on wood.)
11. What was the best thing you bought?
    Is it lame if I say life insurance?
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
    My nephew for all his music competitions.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
    Two family members who just don't get it.
14. Where did most of your money go?
    Rent, followed closely by student loans.


15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
    Finishing the fall academic quarter so I could actually get some rest.
16. What songs will remind you of 2014?
    "Happy" by Pharrell Williams.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder?
    Neither happier nor sadder.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
    Relaxing, sleeping, and reading.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
    Grading essays.
20. How will you be spending New Year's?
    Probably staying home watching TV.
21. Did you fall in love in 2014?
    No, but I'm still very much in love with my husband.
22. How many one-night stands?
    Zero.
23. What was your favorite TV program?
    "Gotham."
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
    No.
25. Do you like anyone now that you hated this time last year?
    No.


26. What was the best book you read?
    "The Martian: A Novel" by Andy Weir
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
    Donald Fagen's solo work (as usual, about 20 years after everyone else).
28. What did you want and get?
    Riot Fest tickets.
29. What did you want and not get?
    Full-time employment.
30. What was your favorite film this year?
    "Interstellar."
31. What did you do on your birthday?
    Dinner and a movie with hubby.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
    An island vacation. (Next year!)
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2014?
    Simple, comfortable clothes (but not plain!)
34. What kept you sane?
    Reading.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
    Benedict Cumberbatch!
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
    The economy.
37. Who did you miss?
    My sister and her kids, who now live in Missouri.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
    Johnny the Horse & his ladyfriend Nancy.

    If you assign it, you have to grade it.
